And the testing finally begins

I glazed my first batch of trial pieces back in January and was finally able to fire them this week. I don't know if there was any rhyme or reason for the combinations I chose for round one, but I do know this is just the first round of many. All pieces are listed in Surfaces > Test Pieces: April 2025, and a few caught my attention. Whether it was the color, pattern, or glaze interactions, the following samples aren't great on their own but are worth revisiting.

It's also worth noting that the brown clay body, Standard Hazelnut No.211, seemed to behave poorly with some of the glazes. I will re-sample using a white body for a number of the samples on another day. It also makes me wonder if I should change clays altogether. But not until I go through the gallons and gallons and GALLONS of reclaim of Hazelnut clay awaiting my return.

And, yes, I'm focusing on neutrals and earth tones this round. I find the subtlety challenging but rewarding when you get the balance right.

Round two coming soon.
